Accedo launches gaming service on Microsoft Media Center
Accedo Broadband, the leading aggregator of TV-centric applications distributed over broadband has launched an interactive service, FunZone, centered around casual gaming for the Microsoft Media Center Edition (MCE) platform. The service was launched in the "online spotlight" when MCE went on sale in Sweden October 13 2005. Initially, the FunZone service consists of about 10 games, quizzes and puzzles, but the amount of applications will grow significantly over the coming months.

"With the MCE, the PC is moved into the living room and usage with the remote control will become the common means of interaction. By supplying a set of of easy-to-use, well-known casual gaming concepts, we bring an additional hour of fun in the sofa for the MCE user, as a complement service to traditional TV.", says Fredrik Andersson, VP Business Development, Accedo Broadband.

FunZone for MCE is delivered from Accedo Application Provisioning Solution™(AAPS), the state-of-the-art solution for distribution of IPTV applications. AAPS makes it possible to move applications between different devices and deliver them to end consumers cost-effectively and reliably. The applications are extracted from the Accedo Application Portfolio™ which is presently the largest multi-platform application portfolio for IPTV.

"The MCE platform has all the possibilities of a full-blown PC platform, but when using the MCE as intended, in front of the TV with remote control interactivity, it shares a lot of the complexities of the less powerful IPTV client platforms. It is necessary to adapt applications to enjoy all benefits of MCE. Such multi-platform thinking makes up the essence of Accedo and we’re very excited to be a part of the MCE roll-out", says Fredrik Andersson.
